In 2007 (the last year for which statistics are available), approximately 27,000 British Columbians were injured in pedestrian accidents. Crossing the street in BC's Lower Mainland is dangerous business. There are more cars on the road everyday. Drivers are in a rush. They're texting, talking on the phone, drinking, eating and even doing their makeup while driving.
It's impossible to completely prevent being hit by a car. But if you learn some basic pedestrian safety strategies you can decrease your odds of being hit.
