A 58-year old woman from Otter Point recently died in a Vancouver ATV accident near Sooke, Bridge Columbia, according to local police.

According to Staff Sgt. Steven Wright, the woman was driving her all-terrain vehicle on the Southwest Coast of Vancouver Island when she lost control of vehicle, and the ATV flipped on top of her. After she failed to return home, friends called authorities, who found her at 9:00 p.m. that evening. The woman had been wearing her helmet, but the head protection was not enough. Paramedics could not revive her. The case remains under investigation.

If you or your loved one got hurt in a Vancouver motorcycle or ATV accident, this story can really hit home. When the ATV craze broke out in the 1980s, ATV manufacturers faced a rash of lawsuits. Many early ATV vehicles had high centers of gravity. This allowed them to flip over easily.

Many people still consider ATVs to be little more than glorified bicycles or go-karts.

Some riders take an overly cavalier attitude when it comes to ATV safety: they fail to wear helmets; they drive under the influence of alcohol; they fail to do timely tune-ups, etc.

When you investigate a Vancouver motorcycle accident, you want to turn over every proverbial leaf and look under every proverbial stone to find out what caused it.

If driver negligence contributed, then so be it.

Unfortunately, however, so many riders and their families are ashamed by the rider’s behavior and they just accept blame without digging deeper. For instance, perhaps your 16-year-old daughter hurt herself when she hopped on her motorcycle or ATV without her helmet and skidded off the side of the road. An investigation may reveal that the root cause was a defect with the bike or the negligent/careless actions of another driver. So avoid jumping to conclusions!
