Your ICBC Injury Claim - How Much Do Lawyers Charge ?

How much are you going to have to pay a lawyer to handle your ICBC injury claim ?
Well, the vast majority of lawyers in British Columbia handle ICBC injury claims on a percentage basis ( i.e. a contingency fee agreement). What this means is that you don't have to pay your lawyer for the work they do until your case is either settled or you've got a trial award. And what you pay your lawyer is based on a percentage of your settlement or trial award. As opposed to how many hours your lawyer has worked on your case.
Now, just like any other service there's a market place for legal services. And I can tell you there's certainly a wide and varied market when it comes to lawyers who handle ICBC injury claims.
At the bottom end of the market, you'll probably be able to find a lawyer who'll handle your case for a percentage fee of 20%.
At the top end it's 33 1/3 % ( the top end being the legal maximum that a lawyer can charge to handle an ICBC injury claim in British Columbia).
When you boil it down, the whole thing is pretty straight forward. When you hire a lawyer to handle your ICBC injury claim you are paying that lawyer a price for their services. So, the question you have to ask is what value are you getting in return.
So, have a hard look at what you're going to get in return for whatever percentage you're going to pay. And ask yourself this - am I getting fair value for the percentage fee I'm going to pay ?
