Whiplash and Headaches - Your Vancouver Car Accident
YOUR HEADACHES AND YOUR WHIPLASH
IS THERE A CONNECTION ?
An injury to your neck, such as a whiplash injury suffered in a car accident - and headaches often go together.
The research appears to indicate that the headaches you're suffering from may stem from your neck injury.
The scientific term is "cervogenic headache". This term is used by doctors to describe pain referred to the head by a source in the cervical spine ( aka neck).
A study in Headache magazine found that the most common cause of " cervogenic headaches" was degenerative change ( aka arthritis) in the joints of the upper cervical spine.
Interestingly enough, it's not uncommon to for a person who has suffered a whiplash injury in a Vancouver car accident to be sent for x-rays of their neck. And sometimes these x-rays show arthritis in there neck region.
Many of those who show arthritis in the neck, on x-ray, have not suffered from symptoms of neck pain prior to their car accident.
And it gets better, these type of people ( in my experience) often suffer from signficant problems with headaches after their car accident. The research seems to indicate that there's a linkage between the arthritis in the neck region and the headache pain.
Complicated ? I'm afraid so.
