Our Vancouver motorcycle accident lawyers love the crisp air and delightful foliage of autumn as much as anyone else does. However, we are mindful of the dangers of the season, particularly as they relate to early frosts and snows.

Following are some reasons why we get concerned:

1. Motorcycle riders tend to be “ready” for cold weather driving in December and January, but they are far less psychologically and physically equipped in early fall.

It is easy to have snow and ice on your mind if you are biking just after a blizzard. Such riding can still be dangerous, but early fall snow and ice driving is dangerous in a very different way. Most riders just do not expect snow and ice in early fall. They may be rusty and uncertain about how to maneuver through it, and they may lack the gear to drive safely.

2. The lack of massive snow cover can create a false sense of security.

Motorcycle accident experts will tell you that the most dangerous times to drive during a rainstorm is 30 to 45 minutes after it begins to pour. This is because, when rain first falls, it mixes with oil and other chemicals on the road to make the surface super slick. Ultimately, those chemicals are washed away as the storm progresses. Likewise, drivers may be tempted to laugh off or underrate the danger of a small amount of frost or snow on the roads.

3. We are more preoccupied in late summer and early autumn.

Perhaps it is because we are heading back to school. Perhaps it is because summer vacation is over. Whatever the reason, we are busy this time of year and that may lead to attention problems, which only compound the dangers of freshly slick iced or frosted roads.
