On Friday November 25, 2013, Little Riddick Servio was stuck by a vehicle at a crosswalk located in the parking lot of Meadowtown Centre in Pitt Meadows.

By all accounts Riddick was holding his mother Rowena's hand when they were hit by a Honda minivan.

RCMP have speculated that  light from the morning sun may have contributed to an inability on the part of the driver of the Honda to see Riddick and his mother.

But is there more to it?

Can anything good possibly come out of this tragic accident?

An article in the Monday November 25, 2013, edition of the Province Newspaper says that the intersection where this horrible accident took place is hazardous:

" Area residents who use the mall on a regular basis said the four-way intersection is often dangerous for pedestrians".

In particular Mr. Shawn Carlson told the Province:

" A lot of people do a rolling stop at that corner. It is a poor designed and kind of confusing intersection..."

Perhaps this tragedy will result in changes to the intersection such that pedestrians are better protected.

One can only hope.
