Drinking and Driving - The Carnage
Drinking and driving is wrong.
Yet some idiots still get behind the wheel after they’ve been drinking.
Of course a ton of time and money has been spent trying to fight the plague of drinking and driving.
Public information campaigns. Tougher sentencing etc., etc.
But the message still doesn’t seem to be getting through.
Don’t drunk drivers understand the human cost of their actions?
The article centres on a case in which two women lost their lives after being hit by a drunk driver.
The victims’ families spoke at the trial.
And what they had to say was heart-breaking.
These two women left behind children, partners, siblings and parents. People whose lives have been changed forever.
The culprit will no doubt go to jail. But it’s the families of the victims are the ones who’ll pay the price.
Think about it.
Children who’ll grow up without their mother. Parents who’ll have to live with the loss of a child. And widowers will have to endure a pain too difficult for most of us to even imagine.
These are the people who will have to pay for this tragic crime.
It’s just a taste of the carnage that drunk drivers cause.
On average 95 people are killed as a result of impaired driving in BC every year. That’s 95 families torn apart by something that is entirely preventable.
It’s senseless and it’s tragic.
And that’s why we at McComb Witten stand behind MADD (Mothers Against Drink Driving).
MADD is an organization founded by a mother whose daughter was killed by a drunk driver. MADD works to protect families from impaired drivers and campaigns aggressively to stop this senseless crime.
Their work is truly amazing. Visit their website if you have a chance.
And please, please PLEASE don’t get behind the wheel of a car if you think you’re impaired. Just think of the families whose lives you might destroy.
