Self-Driving Cars - What About...?
There's no doubt about it.
Driverless cars are on the way.
And I think it's fair to say that this new piece of technology will eradicate problems that arise from "driver error" and other difficulties that stem from human frailties.
BUT having a computer operating your vehicle might also cause a series of problems.
David Booth tackles this issue head on in his article published in today's Vancouver Province, " The Dark Side of Self-Driving Cars".
And Booth identifies a whopper of a problem when he states:
"If in avoiding an accident, the only solution available to yoru computerized, high-tech car is running into a busload of school kids or running off a cliff, which will it choose?"
So, before we rush headlong into embracing "driverless cars" perhaps we should slow down and think.
