" Naomi Singh and her two girls were traveling on a wet winding road at about 2:30 p.m Tuesday.

They were rounding a corner in heavy rain when the driver lost control of her Volkswagen Jetta in the 2300 block of Fulford-Ganges Road. The car spun 180 degrees and its back end smashed into the front end of an oncoming GMC Van"   - Elaine O'Connor, Province Newspaper - May 30, 2013 edition.

This tragic car accident took the life of a three year old girl.

And nothing can bring her back.

The only good that can come of this tragic story is to learn from it. So another family dosen't have to suffer this same cruel fate.

So it's with this goal in mind that  I'd like to examine what exactly happened here. What were the factors which contributed to this accident ? Ask yourself the following questions:

1. Road  Design - By all accounts the section of roadway where this accident took place was "windy". Did the operator of the Volkswagen Jetta modify her driving in order to account for the design of the roadway she was travelling on ?

2. Road/Weather Conditions -  According to all sources it was raining heavily at the time the accident ocurred. As such I think it's safe to assume that the road was slippery. Was the driver of the Volkswagen Jetta taking weather road/weather conditions into account as far as the operation of her vehicle is concerned ?

3. Speed - Based on #1 and #2,  is it safe to assume that the operator of a vehicle travelling on the roadway  where the accident occured should have modified the speed of her vehicle in order to account for the prevailing conditions ?

What are you thoughts ? We all might learn from what you have to say.
