Keeping a level head about bike helmets
Thinking about whether or not you should bother putting on a bike helmet?
Let me run a hypothetical past you.
Lets say you're on your way home after a hard day at work.
And you're travelling straight through an intersection on a green light when an SUV pulls a left turn directly across your path.
You hammer on your brakes in an effort to avoid a collision and lose control of your bike.
You go flying over your handlebars and do a superman through the air.
You end up striking the pavement with your forehead and in a great deal of pain.
Do you think it would have been better to have been wearing:
1. a bicycle helmet;
2. your Blue Jays baseball cap;
3. a black longshoreman style touque?
You tell me.
The bottomline here is simple - the evidence is clear.
Bicycle helmets help to prevent head injury.
And more to the point - they prevent the tragedy that you and your family might experience should you be unfortunate enough to suffer one.
A guest editorial from the Edmonton Journal ( published in the Province on Nov 7/13) might give you some food for thought.
