ICBC Injury Claims and Chronic Pain - Pain Solution #1
Being injured in a car accident can have a cascading affect on every part of your life.
It often seems as if the injuries, pain and disability which flow from your accident have taken over your identity.
So, is there any thing that can be done to combat Chronic Pain ?
According to an article available through the Pain BC website, " Treatment Options for Pain - Beyond Medications, Surgery and Injections - Options for Developing a Personal Toolbox of Pain Solutions" there is.
" People who live well with chronic pain tell us that they did best when they felt like they were equal partners in managing their pain.." ( page 2)
This excellent article goes on to indicate:
"... Most said that in the early days, they relied heavily on medications, surgery and needles, because that were anxious to find a cure for the pain that had started to control and destroy their lives..." ( page 2)
What became apparent to those who've gone on to successfully cope with Chronic Pain is that there is no CURE for chronic pain. There is no silver bullet.
Rather, the first step towards managment of pain appears to be accepting that you have the condition and that you must play an active role in managing your CHRONIC PAIN.
So, how does a person go about MANAGING their chronic pain ?
According to the Pain BC article, pain is like a fingerprint. And as such each individual needs to find the techniques that work for them to control their chronic pain.
The techniques which Chronic Pain suffers use to control/manage their chronic pain include:
1. Optimizing their sleep
2. Lifestyle changes
3. Cognitive-based psychotherapy
4. Gentle exercise
5. Yoga and/or meditation;
6. Accessing support from groups that assist sufferers of Chronic Pain
