Are more people hiring lawyers after being hurt in a car accident?
If you've been hurt in a car accident you have to answer a very simple question
"How're you going to deal with it?"
And basically you have two options - you can either deal with ICBC yourself or hire a lawyer.
So how many British Columbians actually hire a lawyer to handle their claim?
Well, according to statistics kept by ICBC, in 2004 the number was 33%.
By 2011 the number had increased to 40%.
And in 2012 the number of people in BC who hired lawyer to help them with their claim reached 45%.
So what's the reason for the increase?
Are people who deal with ICBC bodily injury adjusters finding that their calls and e-mails aren't being returned?
Has delay and/or refusal to pay for medication, physiotherapy, massage and disability benefits fueled this trend?
Do people who've been hurt in a car accident and are dealing with ICBC adjusters find that they're being pressured to settle before they're ready?
Could it be that the settlement offers being made by ICBC adjusters to injured people just aren't cutting it?
Unfortunately, there's no hard data available to answer these questions ( at least none thats been made public).
All that you can do is speculate as to why more and more people are choosing to hire a personal injury lawyer to represent them after they've been hurt in a car accident.
But one thing's for sure.
British Columbians are voting with their feet.
