Hoops, Hockey and The Games We Play
"Crash Shatters Hoop Dreams"
An article in the Monday February 18, 2013, edition of the Vancouver Province tells the story of twin sisters from North Vancouver who were hurt in a 2010 car accident.
Robyn and Jensyn Aulin-Haynes were both rising stars in the basketball world when a van they were in collided with another vehicle in downtown Vancouver.
Robyn, despite suffering significant injuries in the accident, was able to return to basketball.
Here sister Jensyn wasn't so lucky.
Jensyn told Howard Tsumura of the Province Newspaper that despite the passage of close to three years she still wakes up each day to a terrible headache and vomiting. In addition Jensyn said that she continues to suffer from nerve damage to her right shoulder and a variety of problems with her back.
As for Robyn, while she's been able to return to basketball she plays in pain. Both physical and emotional.
The Aulin- Haynes sister's story paints a picture of how dramatically a person's life can change as a result of a Vancouver car accident. Their saga gives you a window of insight into how simple things, like enjoying the sport you've played since you were a kid, can be taken away by a car accident.
