At your first meeting - do you "get to know" a personal injury lawyer?
You've gotten out of the elevator. Walked down the hall. And opened the door.
What's going to happen when you go to a personal injury lawyer's office for your first meeting?
Is it going to be "all business"? Or are you going to get to know each other?
I firmly believe that the initial phase of your first meeting with a personal injury lawyer should be focused on "the human connection".
Think of it this way.
A personal injury claim is exactly that, "personal".
At some stage of this inital meeting you'll need to talk about things that you probably wouldn't want to talk about with "just anybody".
You'll need to talk about your injuries. How they've affected your life. How you feel about your pain. And a host of other "personal" things.
Think about it. Are you going to feel comfortable discussing these types of things with a person you don't have any human connection with?
Of course not!
And more to the point. You and the lawyer you're meeting with need to get a feel for each other as "people".
You"ll need to get a handle on whether the lawyer and his/her firm are the type of people you can share some very personal thoughts and feelings with.
You"ll need to determine whether you can effectively communicate your needs, wants and desires to the lawyer you're meeting with.
Here are a few things that I would recommend you look for in this inital phase of your first meeting:
. does the lawyer make eye contact with you?;
. does he/she seem genuinely interested in "what you're all about" or does it look like he/she is simply "going through the motions"?;
. does the lawyer constantly interrupt you to talk about themselves or do they listen and seem to be interested in having a conversation?;
. does the lawyer take a "just the facts" approach or do they seem to want to find out about you and what makes you tick?;
Ask yourself these questions while you are participating in the initial phase of your first meeting.
The answers will provide you with some very valuable feedback as to whether this is the type of personal injury lawyer and law firm that you can "work with".
Stay tuned. There are more things you should KNOW before you go to your first meeting with a personal injury lawyers.
And if you want to talk about this subject in more detail. Or have questions.Well....
