Its not just other cars that could be found responsible for causing your car accident.

Construction companies can as be held legally responsible.

That's what the Honorable Mr. Justice Skolrood recently found in Richmond v. Channa.

The court decision is 19 pages long.

So I'll give you the key findings.

Firstly, the primary contractor on any construction site that interferes with traffic must comply with the B.C. Traffic Control Manual for Work on Roadways ( "the Manual").

Second, the Manual:

" sets forth basic principles and prescribes standars for the design, application, installation and maintenacne of the types of traffic control devices , markings, barricades, channelizations and hanging signals.."

In the case of Richmond v. Channa it came out that the construction company involved didn't even know that the Manual existed, let alone take steps to comply with it.

So, if you're injured in a car accident in an area where construction is taking place think about whether the construction company involved bares any responsibility.
