Brain Injury, Car Accidents & Gino Odjick
The Algonquin Enforcer.
Gino was a favorite of Canucks fans. Actually, he still is!
So the news that Gino is suffering from mental health issues arrising from a brain injury hits close to home.
A good teammate. A good person. A regular guy.
It's really sad to see such a beloved figure struggling with his demons.
But Big Gino isn't the only person who's suffering from mental health issues because of a brain injury.
In fact, if you've suffered a brain injury as a result of a Vancouver car accident you've probably also experienced mental health problems.
So why is it that no one has implied that Gino is "faking it"?
Why isn't anyone alleging that his mental illness has nothing to do with a brain injury?
Because that's what happens when a person in B.C. claims that they've suffered a brain injury as a result of a car accident.
I see it all the time.
ICBC commonly contends that people who've sustained a brain injury are:
" putting on the Ritz";
" depressed - but not head injured";
etc., etc., etc.
We all feel bad for Big Gino.
But it's interesting that there's one form of treatment in B.C. reserved for professional athletes and another for people who've been hurt in car accidents.
What do you think?
Let me know.
