Bike to Work Week
HUB - organized Bike to Work Week 2013 is underway.
It's an annual event which attempts to publicize the advantages of cycling as a means of transportation.
Quite frankly, I don't think you'll find many people who'll argue with you about the benefits of cycling.
Most folks will agree that cycling is a good way to get around ( and a great form of exercise too).
But what about the safety issue ??
Here's the thing. Anyone who takes to the streets of B.C.'s LowerMainland knows that cyclists need to be ULTRA CAUTIOUS.
Lets just say that while the amount of space available on the roads of Greater Vancouver is finite. The number of vehicles seeking to occupy it continues to increase.
More to the point, many motorists are still not "bike conscious" i.e. they aren't keeping a proper lookout for cyclists.
While many cyclists "assume" that drivers of cars on the roads of the LowerMainland "know they are their".
And its this lethal combination that often results in tragedy.
I sincerely hope that HUB's bike to work week is a resounding success.
BUT - if you're going to participate. PLEASE be careful out there.
