Drowsy driving is causing injury and death on the roads of British Columbia, according to both police and ICBC.

So, what's being done to try and protect innocent motorist from the scourge of drowsy driving ?

Quite frankly there are a number of things on the go.

But the most recent development is a piece of "crash avoidance technology" which is being put forward by Mercedes Benz. Mercedes recently introduced a drowsiness alert system called "Attention Assist".

According to an article in the Friday August 9, 2013, edition of the Province newspaper, " Attention Assist" works like this:

" It gathers information about the driver's behaviour in the first few minutes of operation, creates a driver profile, and if a deviation is noticed, it sounds a warning chime and displays a coffee cup icon on the instrument panel.."

Ok. I haven't seen this technology in action. But it does sound pretty cool.

My compliments to Mercedes Benz for recognizing the road safety issue posed by drowsy driving. And, more importantly, doing something about it.

If you have any questions about the issue of drowsy driving, or want more information about how this issue may impact your ICBC injury claim, feel free to get in touch with me.
